over 300 people at an environmental education show and auction, where the Bank and other sponsors raised around US$ 8,000 through the sale of environmental art pieces. The proceeds were donated to the children s charity Future Change, where a young generation of green enthusiasts can continue to make a positive lasting difference to preserving their environment.

The fundraising activity, which took place at the Emirates Heritage Club in Bateen, was part of a campaign developed across the UAE under the patronage of H.E. Sheikh Hazza bin Sultan bin Zayed Al Nahyan and with the support of leading environmental ambassadors Masdar, Mubadala, and the Higher College of Technology.

In another initiative in the UAE in November 2010, BNP Paribas Dubai staff, friends and family members volunteered their time to join 3,000 other residents in the Beat Diabetes walkathon. The activity helped raise awareness of the causes and debilitating effects of diabetes, and raised money to address a disease that impacts as much as a fifth of the country s population.

BNP Paribas has also sponsored the Bahrain Marathon and entered teams into the event. One of the Bank s teams came in a very creditable 18th from over 130 teams in both the 2010 and 2011 event, with nearly 50 employees participating each year.

Environmental responsibility: More with less

In addition to financing major energy and environmental projects, the Bank is aware of the importance of its responsibility to protect the environment, working to control its direct and indirect environmental impact. One example is the paperless project for electronic transfer of documentation, which saves a total of 380,000 individual pieces of paper per year. More recently, the Bank has started a campaign in the Kingdom of Bahrain that includes the recycling of paper, plastic and metal, alongside replacing plastic bottles with environmentally-sustainable flasks made from recycled plastic to use with water dispensers.
