In January 2010, BNP Paribas held a second Women and Leadership Conference, organised in conjunction with the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), the United Information Centre (UNIC) and broadcast by the MBC Group. Moderated by Nima Abou Wardeh, Founder of Mzone and presenter of the BBC Middle East Business Report, the Conference featured a panel of distinguished speakers including H.E. Dr. Majeed Al Alawi, the Kingdom of Bahrain s Minister of Labour; and H.E. Dr. Nazar Al Baharna, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, followed by a series of workshops on Women & Politics, Women & Media, Women & Business, and Women & Education.
BNP Paribas is also a supporter of Mix City, a global initiative designed to encourage networking among professional women. Jean-Christophe Durand, BNP Paribas CEO, Middle East and Africa, for Corporate & Investment Banking, championed Mix City in the region between 2008 and 2010, helping to introduce its programmes of meetings and activities in parallel to the Women and Leadership initiative held in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
In November 2010, BNP Paribas and the Qatari Business Women Association launched the first Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) training workshop for female Qatari entrepreneurs, delivered in Arabic.
One of the initiatives stemming from the Women and Leadership conferences was a Kids Club , a fully-equipped day-care facility for children of employees, designed to improve the work-life balance for working parents, which operated between 2010 and 2013. Located in BNP Paribas offices in the Kingdom of Bahrain, the colourful and interactive play, nursing and sleeping area for children aged up to eighteen months was offered free of charge to the Bank s employees.
