H.M. Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of Bahrain receives Jean Lemierre in Paris

In July 2012, H.M. Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of Bahrain, received Advisor to the BNP Paribas Chairman, Jean Lemierre, and BNP Paribas Head for the Middle East and Africa (MEA), Corporate & Investment Banking, Jean-Christophe Durand, at his residence in Paris, where the King took the opportunity to praise the close ties between France and the Kingdom of Bahrain in the financial sector and the Bank s role in financing the Kingdom s industrial projects. Durand for his part thanked the King for the continuous support shown to the Bank and praised the Kingdom s enviable reputation as an international financial centre.

Alain Papiasse and Jean Lemierre visit the MEA Region

December 2012, saw a senior delegation visit the MEA region, highlighting its strategic importance to the Bank. Alain Papiasse, Head of Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB), Jean Lemierre, Advisor to the Chairman, and Eric Raynaud, Head of Asia-Pacific Region, all travelled to Bahrain to attend the BNP Paribas Advisory Board meeting, which took place in the Kingdom for the first time.

The Advisory Board Meeting was notable for its focus on the growing economic ties between the Kingdom of Bahrain and India, which shares enduring historic and cultural ties with the entire Middle East region. Senior representatives from India, the Kingdom of Bahrain, France and Asia participated in a series of presentations and round table discussions that centred on means to develop bridges between India and the Middle East.

Advisory Board members also held discussions with H.R.H. Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, Prime Minister, Kingdom of Bahrain, who recognised the key role of BNP Paribas in the Kingdom of Bahrain and its contributions to the Kingdom s economy, and expressed the Kingdom of Bahrain s interest in boosting economic co-operation with India. Board members and BNP Paribas representatives also met with senior ministers and business leaders and attended a private dinner where the French and Indian Ambassadors to the Kingdom of Bahrain were present. Following the Advisory Board meeting, the Bank s senior delegation joined a private reception hosted by the Central Bank of Bahrain.

Jean Lemierre went on to visit the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where he met with clients and strategic stakeholders, including senior regulators.

Alain Papiasse demonstrates CIB s commitment to the Gulf

Alain Papiasse, Head of Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB), has paid frequent visits to the Gulf over the years to build relations with government officials, meet key clients, and demonstrate the Group s long-term commitment to the region s socio- economic development. Some of his visits include a trip in May of 2009 to the Kingdoms of Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, and Abu Dhabi to hold a wide range of discussions with regulators, and also participate in an internal meeting for the management team in the Kingdom of Bahrain. He also returned to the Kingdoms of Saudi Arabia and Bahrain in 2010. Later in December 2012, he attended an internal and high profile external event that emphasized the relations between the Gulf and India in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Following this he also travelled to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

More recently in May 2013, he met with key clients and government stakeholders in the Kingdoms of Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates, and also attended one of the most prominent events on the Bank s annual calendar: the 12th Annual MEA Forum, which discusses the Bank s strategy in the region and how to better support the growth aspirations of clients.
